Forced Silence

This unfinished drawing was started in 2004 In my 12th year of High School. We were assigned a task to create four pieces on a topic we felt strongly about. I chose censorship in our media, our speech and our thoughts. I feel in this day and age we are expected to act in a certain manner in order to be socially accepted. We are taught to think the same, act the same and abhor all rebellion. In our schools we are not taught individualism but rather taught to mimic information taught to us. We are taught to be followers rather than leaders.
This piece was done in graphite, I used an image of Christina Aguilera with her mouth sewn shut. The hands represent the hands of society and the Government.
